Late 1700's - Mail coach post system - this system was a precursor to the Penny Black... this video ends up as and advertisement to this gentleman's web site, but may be of interest.

1840 - The Penny Black postage stamp enabled common people to send letters and materials at an affordable cost. See this Google analytics timeline search.
