The Past, Present and Future of Distance Education and Technology

International Museum of Distance Education and Technology

This organization and web site is dedicated to those interested in distance education and educational technology - past, present and future! A particular focus is to encourage historical research in the field of distance education, but don't be misled by the term "Museum." Current faculty, designers, administrators, technologists, historians and students will find information that should be helpful for contemporary purposes.

We are in the start-up phase and will soon offer many valuable resources, including information on scholarship, technology, practice, history and the future of distance education.

This web site currently holds a modest amount of information, however, we will be adding much more in the near future.

In the first phase of development, we'll be adding/consolidating and linking to content that is readily available via the world wide web. In the second phase, we'll be adding original content.

The information should be of interest to students, educators, historians, and anyone else who finds that they are interested in exploring lifelong learning, open education and distance education (many times referred to as e-learning, distance learning, blended learning, m-learning, ODL or open and distance learning, open learning). We'll also be making continuous upgrades to the design of the site.

The International Museum of Distance Education and Technology will provide this web site as a growing resource on the history of distance education and will explore the possibilities of its virtual campus (currently in Second Life). We would also like to hold face to face events in the future.

We invite you to sign up for our newsletter, join our Facebook group, follow us on Twitter, or subscribe to our YouTube page. We also have a group in Second Life that already has hundreds of members from all over the world.

We also welcome any contributions from colleagues around the world. We will provide a space for you to share your organization's history - or your own personal history as related to distance education. Contact us here.
